What's It Like Arriving on NIH's Bethesda Campus?

Tuesday, January 8, 2019

We recently sat down with a handful of NIH IRP researchers and support staff to talk about what it’s like to work in the IRP. These meetings between mostly strangers who work at the same massive research campus near Washington, D.C., highlight a wonderful quality of the IRP: Everywhere you go, there are numerous other people who share a love of science and a drive to improve human health, yet also come from markedly different backgrounds and offer wide-ranging perspectives. IRP researchers who reach out to learn from their diverse colleagues and share their thoughts and experiences often find new collaborators and other rewards.

Mitochondrial DNA Replication and Inheritance

Thursday, October 13, 2016

Reblogged from the NHLBI Intranet (NIH access).

Hong Xu, NIH IRP - NHLBI Orloff Award

Dr. Hong Xu's team’s expertise in mitochondrial DNA genetics, along with a strong mitochondrial biology research group in the IRP, allowed them to solve the fundamental biological question of how organisms are able to stop the accumulation of mitochondrial DNA mutations from being passed on to future generations.

Capturing a Visual Story of Alcoholic Liver Disease Research

Tuesday, July 5, 2016

Teresa Ramirez and Adeline Bertola collaborating in the lab

It started with a quick tour and meeting the team. We sat in the break room to chat about what Dr. Bin Gao’s lab at the NIH IRP is up to, in preparation to return a few days later to capture photos and video of their ‘Research in Action.’ What did we find?

Collaboration Identifies Role of DNA-PK in Asthma

Tuesday, May 3, 2016

Reblog from the NHLBI Intranet (NIH-only access).

Role of DNA-PK in Asthma

Second in the Orloff Award recipient series are Drs. Jay Chung and Stewart Levine for their characterization of the role of DNA-dependent protein kinase (DNA-PK) in dendritic cell function in asthma and for the identification of the role of pharmacological inhibition of DNA-PK as a novel treatment approach for asthma.

LabTV: Young Scientist Curious About The Immune System

Wednesday, April 15, 2015

Reblogged from the NIH Director's Blog. Originally posted by Dr. Francis Collins, NIH Director, on March 19, 2015.

Welcome to LabTV! If you haven’t already, take a look at this video. I hope you will enjoy meeting the first young scientist featured in this brand new series that I’ve chosen to highlight on my blog. The inspiration for LabTV comes from Jay Walker, who is the founder of PriceLine, and curator and chairman of TEDMED, an annual conference focused on new ideas in health and medicine.
