Clinical Faculty
Over 300 Staff Clinicians (SC) are part of the clinical faculty of the NIH Intramural Research Program (IRP). These physicians and dentists provide clinical care, lead medical training programs, and conduct medical research as principal investigators of human subject research protocols. While our clinical faculty are based in a particular Institute or Center, they often collaborate with colleagues nationally and internationally. The clinical faculty are at the heart of the clinical care provided at the NIH Clinical Center, an over 200 bed clinical research hospital with adjacent outpatient clinics on the Bethesda, Maryland campus, as well as other affiliated sites across the United States. The NIH IRP has established clinical faculty titles for Staff Clinicians of Assistant, Associate, and Senior Research Physician or Dentist. These titles are equivalent to the titles of Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor in the Clinical or Clinician-Educator Tracks at academic medical centers.
