Independent Research Scholar

The Independent Research Scholar (IRS) program seeks to attract research scientists with a proven commitment to improving the diversity of the NIH Intramural Research Program (IRP). IRS program scholars are independent, non-tenure track Principal Investigators (PI). They are selected based upon their readiness to conduct independent research and on their commitment to enhancing diversity within the biomedical workforce. Successful candidates are provided resources to establish an independent research program, including salary and benefits, support for lab personnel, lab space, supplies, and start-up equipment.
