A meeting of great minds: Anthony Fauci, Diane Dowling, Harvey Alter, James Gilman, Monica Bertagnolli, and Lawrence Tabak pose for a photo in front of the exhibit.
The Office of NIH History and Stetten Museum hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony Feb. 14 in celebration of the exhibit “Harvey Alter and the Discovery of Hepatitis C: Making Our Blood Supply Safe.” The exhibit is located in the central corridor of the Warren Grant Magnuson Clinical Center, Building 10.

Alter was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 2020, along with Michael Houghton and Charles Rice, for their discoveries that led to the identification of the hepatitis C virus. The new exhibit is located near the FAES coffee shop, so you can grab a cup of coffee and enjoy Alter’s humorous poem “I Never Had No Nobel Dreams,” which he recited at the ribbon-cutting event.
