VISITNIH: A SAFER, SPEEDIER WAY TO ON-CAMPUS COLLABORATION, COMING JANUARY 2025
Collaboration is core to our mission of transformational research here at NIH. Each year, NIH welcomes thousands of visitors to campus from across the globe to connect on the latest research, share best practices, and partner on groundbreaking work. To enhance security and streamline the process of welcoming researchers, patients, and other professionals to our campuses, VisitNIH has launched.
VisitNIH, part of the Visitor Access Management Initiative (VAMI), is an online pre-registration process that allows visitors to bypass long security lines at our campus gates. Pre-registration will be required for non-U.S. person visitors and will be available for U.S. person visitors who wish to have a speedier entry. The VisitNIH interface is intuitive and highly adapted to meet the nuanced demands of the NIH.
January 2025 marks the start of the phased implementation of VisitNIH, which will include the launch of VisitNIH’s pre-registration process for visitors coming to the Bethesda main campus. More details to come, but in the meantime, information about VisitNIH and details on the implementation plan can be found on the VAMI intranet page.
DISCOVER WOMEN’S HEALTH RESEARCH PORTAL ROLLS OUT
Discover Women’s Health Research is a collaboration between the NIH, NLM, and the Office of Research on Women’s Health (ORWH) to promote the discovery of NIH investments in women's health research.
This novel discovery portal enables researchers, health care professionals, patients, caregivers, and the public to easily find the latest discoveries and current research funded by NIH for women’s health. The initial phase of this resource will provide information on the research areas of menopause, polycystic ovary syndrome, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and scleroderma, with more to come.
The centralized resources is one big step towards NIH fulfilling the White House Initiative on Women’s Health Research.

DISTINGUISHED SCHOLARS PROGRAM KICKOFF MEETING
The Distinguished Scholars Program (DSP) held their annual kickoff meeting with the NIH Director October 24 on the Bethesda campus. The 2024 scholars were greeted by NIH senior leadership and senior investigators who serve as dedicated mentors, advocates, and sponsors for each DSP cohort.
Now in its 7th year, the DSP aims to build a more inclusive community within the NIH Intramural Research Program by facilitating the recruitment and career development of principal investigators who have a commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in the biomedical research workforce.
