President Trump Visits NIH to Discuss Coronavirus
On March 3, 2020, President Donald Trump visited NIH for a tour of the Dale and Betty Bumpers Vaccine Research Center (VRC), which is overseen by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). Research is underway in the VRC to develop a safe and effective vaccine for the novel coronavirus. Here, NIAID Director Anthony Fauci (center) discusses vaccine research with the president. From left: VRC Deputy Director Barney Graham, NIH Director Francis Collins, VRC Director John Mascola (behind Fauci), Fauci, HHS Secretary Alex Azar (behind Trump), President Trump, and VRC research fellow Kizzmekia Corbett, who is working on developing a vaccine for the novel coronavirus. After the tour, there was a presidential briefing (including all those pictured as well as NIH Principal Deputy Director Larry Tabak) on the coronavirus disease.
