Combating a Cancer-Causing Virus

As many as one in every five cases of cancer is caused by a virus. Ameera Mungale, a graduate student in the Intramural Research Program at the National Institutes of Health, is searching for a way to stop a particular cancer-causing virus from promoting the growth of tumors. Her experiments with a type of medication that is already FDA-approved could lead to new treatments for patients with that form of cancer.
