Discovering Virus-Fighters With an Antibody Olympics
Special proteins called antibodies help us fight off illnesses like the flu and COVID-19, but not all antibodies are created equal. Kimberly Manalang, a postbaccalaureate fellow in the Intramural Research Program at the National Institutes of Health, sets up competitions between different antibodies to find the best of the best. Once scientists know which antibodies are the strongest competitors, they can better focus their efforts to develop new treatments for infectious diseases.
