Using Neuroscience to Reverse Obesity

Maintaining a healthy body weight is difficult for many people, and consuming different sorts of foods might make it easier or harder to accomplish that goal. Valerie Darcey, a postdoctoral research fellow and registered dietitian in the Intramural Research program at the National Institutes of Health, is assessing how different diets affect the brain’s reward system, which heavily influences what and how much people eat. Her research could lead to evidence-based ways of eating that do a better job of helping people with obesity lose weight.
