A Glimpse Into Neuromuscular Disorders

It’s normal to lose muscular strength as we age, but numerous diseases cause similar consequences in relatively young people. Yonathan Assefa, a postbaccalaureate research fellow in the Intramural Research Program at the National Institutes of Health, is using a technology called ultrasound to look at the muscles and nerves in people with one of those illnesses. The information gleaned from his research could help scientists more quickly and accurately evaluate the effectiveness of new treatments for these conditions.
