Senior Clinician, NINDS

The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is searching for an outstanding neurologist to serve as a Senior Clinician (HS) in the Division of Intramural Research (DIR). Senior Clinicians in NINDS conduct basic, translational, and clinical research, provide care for patients at the NIH Clinical Center, train junior investigators, and collaborate within NINDS and across other institutes. The Division of Intramural Research at NINDS boasts strong clinical/translational programs in neuroimmunology, neurogenetics, surgical neurology, vascular neurology, and neuroimaging. Senior Clinicians maintain a wide range of responsibilities. The candidate will build an independent clinical or translational research program in the field of behavioral neurology and will have a strong track record of conducting research. In this role, they will lead collaborative research efforts with other investigators across NINDS; provide mentorship and education of trainees; and provide oversight and leadership for the research nurses, nurse practitioners, patient care coordinators, and/or clinical data managers. The candidate will also serve as Co-Director of the Education and Training Unit, providing leadership and oversight of all NINDS intramural ACGME and non-ACGME and collaborative fellowships, residency programs, and a resident elective program. They will play an important role in recruitment and selection of the trainees. The Co-Director will also provide mentorship and coordinate educational efforts and milestones for NIH and visiting neurological residents and fellows. 

The successful candidates must hold an M.D., D.O., or M.D.-Ph.D.; be U.S. board-certified or a board-eligible neurologist with relevant training in clinical care and research and substantial experience as a practicing neurologist; be nationally recognized for outstanding clinical care, mentorship, and research; hold a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and meet the requirements to be clinically credentialed at the NIH Clinical Center.

Laboratory facilities, shared research facilities, research funds, and salary are competitive with premier academic institutions, and salary will be commensurate with experience. A full civil service benefits (including retirement, health, life and long-term care insurance, Thrift Savings Plan, etc.) package is available.
