Eavesdropping on Bacterial Chit-Chat

Published:

The bacteria living inside our bodies are constantly sending signals to each other, and sometimes these bacterial conversations can make infections worse. Tiffany Zarrella, a postdoctoral fellow in the Intramural Research Program at the National Institutes of Health, has come up with a way to eavesdrop on this bacterial chit-chat and identify the signals they use to communicate. She hopes her discoveries will help scientists come up with new ways to prevent or treat life-threatening infections.
