BCGC
BSP CCR Genetics Core Group Email
This list is for the Staff of the BCGC only. the list “BCGCNews” is for keeping informed about the
BCGC.
The Basic Science Program provides dedicated/embedded support to NCI CCR laboratories
that carry out investigator-initiated, hypothesis-driven biomedical research. The BSP CCR
Genetics Core (BCGC) was formed in response to specific research support needs of CCR
Principal Investigators. This core is an indispensable component of multiple CCR PI
research programs owing to several factors including, responsiveness to research needs,
resident expertise and creative problem solving.

The BCGC has unique characteristics that have resulted in a high degree of utility to
the CCR customers. The BCGC operates using a comprehensive “from carbon to silicon”
approach that encompasses the ability to organize studies/establish cohorts, collect and
process samples, generate and interpret data and take part in publishing manuscripts.
This integrated approach and application of established expertise adds value to the
services provided due to elimination of redundancy and increased efficiency. Another part
of the added value stems from the collaborative environment the BCGC fosters with CCR
labs and the fact that the BCGC is comprised of biologists working in their chosen fields
and that they are personally vested in the research. Application of inherent expertise and
a commitment to being responsive places the BCGC in a position to guide work by
anticipating/heading-off issues and solving problems in real-time from within projects.

SAIC-F and the BSP coordinate, and inter-digitate, BCGC support with other SAIC-F
research support capabilities such as the ISP and ATP in the cases where we can leverage
resident expertise to optimize BCGC support. The BCGC also draws on expertise present in
the SAIC-F run Core Genotyping Facility.
