The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) in Bethesda, MD, announces a search for a Senior Scientist in the field of marmoset genetics and reproductive biology to join its intramural research program. The appointment will reside with the NINDS and will have joint affiliation with the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). The NINDS and NIMH intramural programs are composed of over 100 investigators engaged in basic and clinical research. The ideal candidate will have a recognized international reputation and demonstrated mastery of marmoset genetics to provide leadership and guidance in the establishment of a joint NINDS/NIMH Marmoset Genetics Core Facility. The successful candidate will help shape an innovative, high-profile non-human primate transgenesis core facility, collaborate with other investigators using marmoset models to study neurological diseases, and maintain an independent research program in marmoset biology. The selected scientist, who will report directly to the NINDS Scientific Director, will direct and oversee the establishment of a research program to advance techniques for the genetic modification of marmosets to provide animal models to study neurological disorders including stroke, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and neuropsychiatric disorders.
The applicant must have successfully completed a 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a Bachelor's Degree or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the work of this position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. The ideal candidate for this position will have a recognized international reputation and demonstrated mastery of marmoset genetics to provide leadership and guidance in the establishment of a joint NINDS/NIMH Marmoset Genetics Core Facility along with demonstrated accomplishments in the field and a minimum of 10-years experience in marmoset genetics research. While not required, a Ph.D., D.V.M., or M.D. is preferred.
Salary will be commensurate with experience and a full civil service benefits package is available.
