The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is seeking an exceptional and motivated leader to serve as the Clinical Director/Senior Clinician within the Clinical Investigation Branch (CIB) in the Division of Intramural Research (DIR). NCCIH DIR conducts basic, translational, and clinical research to improve our understanding of neural mechanisms of pain processing and non-pharmacological modulation of pain. The Clinical Director/Senior Clinician will have a wide range of responsibilities relating to the oversight of the clinical intramural research program. The Clinical Director/Senior Clinician will oversee scientific review and data and safety monitoring for the NCCIH DIR to ensure that the highest standards of clinical research are met, and that medical staff in the DIR are supported in this endeavor with adequate clinical research support systems. The Clinical Director/Senior Clinician will be responsible for the overall coordination of services for the clinical staff and patients. Duties will also include development of mechanistic clinical research concepts and protocols, oversight and coordination of active trials, data analysis and evaluation, and publication of results.
The successful candidate must have an M.D. or D.O. degree or equivalent, board certification in neurology or psychiatry, demonstrated leadership ability, and relevant training in pain management and cognitive behavioral therapy. Candidates must have specialized expertise in the following fields:
Human brain imaging methodologies.
Psychopharmacological pain management and cognitive behavioral therapy for chronic pain disorders.
Clinical research, including patient safety monitoring, and human research protections.
Scientific communication, including analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of scientific and clinical data. preparation of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals, and presentation of research findings to internal and external audiences.
Salary will be commensurate with experience and accomplishments.
