Assistant Clinical Investigator, NINDS

The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is seeking outstanding neurologists to serve as Assistant Clinical Investigators within the Division of Intramural Research. Investigators in NINDS conduct basic, translational, and clinical research, provide neurological care for patients at the NIH Clinical Center, train junior investigators, and collaborate within NINDS and across other institutes. Assistant Clinical Investigators can have a wide range of responsibilities relating to oversight of a clinical intramural research program. They will be responsible for a mentored research effort in clinical neurosciences, including epilepsy or neuroimmunology. Duties include development of laboratory and/or clinical research protocols, oversight and coordination of active trials, data analysis and evaluation, and publication of results. Candidates will also provide clinical care and consultation on patients within their area of academic interest.
The successful candidates must be an M.D./D.O. or M.D./Ph.D.; be a board-certified neurologist with relevant training in clinical care and research; hold a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and meet the requirements to be clinically credentialed at the NIH Clinical Center.
This is a time-limited appointment (3 years initially, with potential of extending up to 5 years total). Salary will be commensurate with experience. A full civil service package of benefits (including retirement, health, life and long-term care insurance, Thrift Savings Plan, etc.) is available.
